Confession

I'm a little bit of an eavesdropper (is that how it's spelled??). I like to listen to the conversations around me. I like to think of it as observation.

As a writer, we're taught to observe our surroundings and take inspiration from them. Observation sounds better than eavesdropping right? So back, to eavesdropping. Lately, I've been "observing" other conversations, and my first response is to make snarky remarks in my head. I add my own thoughts like I'm a part of the conversation.

Just this last Monday, a girl in my Theory of Language class was freaking out that she had forgot her workbook for one of our checks. She kept saying over and over, " Fantastic! Just fantastic! I left it on my desk, it was done too!" She said it like 80 times!!! To everyone around her. Including me. I withheld a response because, it would have been too awesome for her.

The dude sitting in front of her felt no such compunction, and did his best to make her feel better. " That's okay," he said, " at least you have cool boots." The whiner ( is that too mean?) looked down and thoughtfully stared at her boots, "That's true," she said, " I do have cool boots".

Except that they weren't cool boots! They looked like freaking Yeti feet! Big clumps of brown and tan fur sewn on clunky brown boots. One might think someone had stuck a Pomeranian on each boot and called it Winter Wear.

So here's my question. Is it as awful to think these mean, but uproariously hilarious, thoughts as it is to actually say them out loud? Is it okay for me to find a small pleasure in making myself laugh at their expense, if they( the subjects) don't find out about it? Or is that being two-faced? This is getting all kinds of complicated...

MIA

So it's been a while, huh? Classes have started picking up, and I finally got my TV and dvd player working in my room with help from Katie. So I've been watching all kinds of TV on dvd, thus preventing quality blogging time.

What to say? I guess I'm just going to make this post the receptacle of all the thoughts I've been having recently.

Have you ever just been driving around and all of a sudden thought, "Freak, I'm DRIVING!" Is it just me? Does no one else think that it's amazing that we are able to drive around in these machines? I'll sometimes be driving and just think about this world that thought of automobiles.

I can just see it in my head, two dudes are talking and one says, " You know, horses are great, but lets take 4 wheels, add an engine, some seats, and a roof and call it a car," then the other guy is like, " Dude! That's righteous!" etc. etc. I just think it's pretty amazing, that's all...

Art

Art makes me happy. This painting entitled Gold Swirls, reminds me so much of a painting my friend from high school, Sophie Smith did. I loved that painting. It was the first piece of art that I really bonded with, if you can bond with a piece of canvas. She's an incredibly talented artist and I'm sure she'll be famous someday.

Spontaneous Sadness

Sometimes I get sad. I get sad for no apparent reason. The days or weeks before may have been the best in my life, but still some days I wake up sad.

This disconcerted sadness hits from out of nowhere. How do I feel better about something that I didn't know was making me sad? I can't solve a problem when I didn't know there was one.

My sad day has become 3. I'm officially in a funk and I'm finding it hard to shake myself out of it. No one can be happy all the time right?

My worries are small, everything always works out. I've taken steps to make my life what I want it to be. I'm working hard in my classes and trying new things. I'm laughing daily with friends, but still that sadness lingers.

So in the effort of vanquishing my doldrums, for the next couple posts I'll be posting things that I find to be pretty, funny, entertaining etc. I'm going to kick this thing and be happy again.

Genius

I'm sure everyone and their mother thought of doing this before me, but whatevs.

If you're like me, you find it very hard to keep track of bobby pins. I must have bought hundreds in my lifetime and I always seem to loose all but like 3.

So I was laying in bed when inspiration struck!! I took a sewing class in the summer and had to buy a pin cushion. I bought a blue magnetic one instead of the customary red tomato.

While in the class, I hardly ever used it, preferring to just leave the pins in the case they came in. Thus leaving this little fella available for this...

A tribute to the best letter in the alphabet...

It's a bobby pin holder!!! I'm really excited now! I can just get ready for bed, drop my pins there, and see them in the morning. No worries of them getting knocked off the counter or slipping off my nightstand. Easy peezy (Is that how it's spelled?)!

Cuteness

So every semester we have to go to a mandatory orientation meeting for our apartment complex. They talk about the same things every time, and this is my 4th semester at this complex, so I know what they're going to say. I still end up going because they charge you if you don't go.

Anyways, my roommates and I went to this meeting last night and endured the monotony. The only bright spot in this whole thing was this:

We saw at least 3 girls wearing them at the meeting. They're called flapper headwraps, and can be found here. They're a cute alternative to bulky ear muffs.

From them on we were only concerned with getting back to the apartment and hunting these babies down . Which we did.

We each decided to buy a different color and share with everyone else, so we will have access to five different colors!

Kristi- Mustard (as pictured above)
Katie- Fuchsia
Stacy- Turquoise
Stephanie- Brown
Sonya- Charcoal

Our friends Mike and Craig were over while we were freaking out about all the great colors to choose from, and they just laughed at us!

They shipped today, and should be here soon! We're way excited!

Operation Sexy

Operation Sexy is officially underway. A group of us, including Katie and myself, joined World's Gym here in Rexburg.

The plan is to slim down and get sexy. Last night was our first workout, and boy am I hurting today.

Along with working out , Katie and I are both trying to eat out less. Not only does it save money, it is also healthier for you. We've both been pretty successful so far.

Every year I say that I want to do better and lose the weight, but this year I'm going to make sure that it's not just talk. I have over a year left here in Idaho, and I believe I can make a significant dent in the amount of weight I need/want to lose.

I'm not just doing this so I can look good naked (though that's a plus), but also because I need to get healthy. I've seen what can result from an unhealthy lifestyle and I don't want that for myself or my family.

I think it will be easier this time around because I have friends doing it too.

I'll keep you posted!

"Here in my car..."

As we made the long journey back to Rexburg last week, I saw a junk yard off the freeway. Hundreds of cars lay there, crushed, broken, forgotten.

Each of those cars once belonged to someone. Those cars drove someone to school each day, brought babies home from the hospital, traveled on cross-country road trips. Each one had memories.

I thought of my own beater of a car, the red Escort SE, affectionately referred to as Wagon. I've had some good times in that car. Both Katie and I learned to drive in this car.

This car is the replica (unfortunately) of its predecessor, lost to us in a car accident in 8th grade.

This car rammed the garage door, knocking the house off the foundation when I was learning to navigate the road.

This car was rear-ended whilst a lamo was searching for parking in Idaho and wasn't looking.

This car has been with me countless times as I have rolled down the window, turned up the tunes, and sang along reveling in the happiness to be derived from simple pleasures.

Though my beauty is old, she still maintains her zippiness. Despite all my protestations that she's ugly (which she is...) and old, I lover her and am thankful that I have a car at all. Oh, if cars could talk...

The Familia

It's only as I've gotten older that I've come to realize that my family isn't like everyone else's families.

We have our oddities and quirks

While some families might hang up artwork of cooking utensils or roosters in the kitchen, we have a framed Happy Bunny poster and pictures of jelly beans.

Most families have nicknames for each other: Sport, princess, sweetheart, pumpkin, etc. My family has nicknames too..

Mom- Mammogram
Dad- Pap Smear
Katie- Katheter
Kristi- Krisyphillis( yes, after the STD)
Rascal- Rascoliosis

Some parents discuss the weather or their work day over dinner, my parents throw their glasses of soda at each other.

I love it! Getting to spend my Christmas break with family has helped me see how utterly awesome we really are. Step off, families of the world. The Wallwork's are bringing sexy back.

One Way or Another, I'm Going to Find You...

I'm a stalker.

I find things that I'm in love with in the store, and wait until they go on sale before buying them. Some might call me cheap, I like to think I'm practical.

I love Torrid. They have way cute stuff, but they're so freaking expensive!

A great thing about them, is that they have a 50% off clearance sale like every 2 or 3 weeks. Their clearance section is updated regularly as well.

So I try something on in the store, and then proceed to stalk it online for the next 2-3 months until it pops up in the clearance section. Then I buy it when the 50% sale starts.

The wait is sometimes difficult, but knowing that you got this awesome thing on the cheap feels good!!

A few little beauties that I am currently stalking...

Red Yellow and Blue Plaid Ruffle-Front Smocked Top Size 1
Blue Buffalo Check Western Hoodie Size 1
Black Tiered Lace Zip-Front Top size 2
