It's A Love Story, Baby She Said Yes!!!

Chris and Julie at Disneyland (pic taken from my cuz, Tori)

Congratulations are in order for Chris and my cousin Julie. They're engaged!!!! I first met Chris at Christmas time. He seemed like a pretty cool guy. He'd have to be for Julie to even notice him, that alone serves as a testament to the rockin dude he is. Julie has high standards, as she should, she's got it going on.

Growing up, Julie, my sister Katie, and I would all sleep over at our grandparent's house. We would all sleep in the same bed and giggle and talk . Back then it was just about our favorite movie princesses, or the fun games we had played at the pool that day.We would often talk about our own fairytale endings, and the princes we would live happily ever after with.

I don't think we ever had faces in mind of the guys that would one day wear those crowns, but I know Chris is that guy for Julie. Katie and I witnessed first hand how ridiculously cute they are together.

I wish them the best in the commencement of their own fairy tale. I love you guys!

The Trial has Landed

Last week I talked about a sense of foreboding that I had. Turns out I'm not crazy, and the Lord did have something extra special in mind for me...

A hurt ankle.

On the trial spectrum, a hurt ankle is not the worst thing that could of happened, but it's not super low either. Especially living in Rexburg during the winter.

I live on the 3rd floor of my apartment complex, on top of a hill, in a town where it snows regulary, across the street from a big campus, with my classes spread out on said campus, with some of those classes upstairs. I guess I'll finally get to use the elevator.

I've always taken the stairs, not just because I need to, (you've seen me...) but also because I heard once that until the day he died, President Hinckley took the stairs. I figured that if a 90+ man can do it, I can too.

My injury follows my attempt to get involved and be a little active. During my dodge ball game last night, I was the last one standing on my side. I was dodging left and right trying to miss the balls thrown by the beefy guys on the other team. I succeeded for a while too. Until the inevitable happened.

I. Didn't. Dodge. The. Ball.

I was struck.

Wounded.

Maimed.

I was out.

While trying to dodge the fatal blow, I jumped to the left hoping to miss it. But when I landed, my ankle decided that it was tired of holding me up and quit. No two weeks notice or anything.

So now I am lying on my bed, feeling sorry for myself as I prepare to crawl to the bathroom and commence cleaning for clean checks.

Moral:
Look out for those beefy dodge ball players, they play dirty.

Old Friends

I love when you have your iTunes music on shuffle, and you stumble upon a song that you've always liked, but haven't listened to in a while.

Here It Goes by Jimmy Eat World is one of those songs. Right from the beginning I get excited to listen to it. I just get hyped up. Loves it!

Laundry Day

I was doing my laundry for what seems like the 800th time this month (I have no idea where all my clothes go) , when I had an epiphany. As I was hanging up the pieces of my clothing with special drying instructions, it hit me.

We're like pieces of clothing.

Some of us are like a sturdy t-shirt that you can give just the plain no frills wash and the occasional dryer sheet, and you're good to go.

Some of us have to be hand washed, or washed with like colors. Some need cold or warm water, some need the gentle cycle.

And some of us need to be laid flat or hung up to dry.

I fall in the last category. I'm the garment that needs to have the wrinkles smoothed out of it and shaped so that it doesn't dry looking all funky. I'm coming to accept that I'm a freaking high maintenance piece of clothing. It takes a little bit more for me to come out looking good.

Some people wake up looking good, but I have to do this long list of things. Wash the face, brush the teeth, moisturize, foundation, powder, bronzer, blush, eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, lip gloss. That's not even getting in to the whole hair territory or the stock of items needed to keep my hair from frizzing out.

Sorry for the rant, sometimes I just get tired of the whole process. But after all, aren't some of our favorite items the ones that have special washing instructions?

Note to Self

Kristi,
You are too young to feel like you are old. 19 is the best time of your life! Who cares that everyone around you is finding love, getting married and having babies? You're getting an education and learning cool things everyday! Who cares that you are kind of awkward around boys? There will be a time where you meet the right guy and you won't be able t0 shut up. You'll do the whole cute Valentine's thing, you'll get to change your relationship status on Facebook, you will have all those lovey things. Remember, you're only 19, you have years yet to get your act together and pop out little ones. There's a time for everything, and this is your time to focus on you. Use it wisely.

Love,
Yourself

All Signs Point to Trials...

What trial is up next for me?

I've noticed a trend in my life this week. Trials.

Everyone and their mother seems to be talking about trials and how we are refined by them.

Some guy talked about how our trials shape us on Sunday, then we studied a whole chapter about the refining power of trials in one of my classes, then we read a silversmith analogy about trials, then Katie's spiritual thought at FHE was about trials making us stronger. I feel like Heavenly Father is trying to tell me something, or help me get prepared for a bomb to drop.

It's a scary thought to think that He knows what's coming and I have absolutely no idea. I don't like to think that I have the worst trials in the world, and that I struggle constantly to make it through the day, but my life's not perfect.

I've been trying to think what He could possibly want me refined for? What part of me needs to change to fulfill His task? I wish He would just tell me without all this trial business, and then maybe I could work on it.

This waiting thing is making me totally antsy.

Sunday Snapshots

I cooked Sunday dinner for my roommates tonight and it was kind of fun. I thinks it's one of the first real home-cooked meals I've had since being back in Idaho. It was a family affair, I used my mom's spaghetti sauce recipe and my Aunt Amy's lava cake recipe. It was delicious and we definitely enjoyed it! I hope they make me dinner next week!

Cake in the face

We had almost as much fun eating the lava cake batter as we did eating the actual lava cakes.

Ch-ch-ch-ch-anges!

I got a haircut! It was about time too, because my bangs weren't even bangs anymore they were so long!

This haircut also marked the first time in an extremely long time that my hair was cut by someone other than my uncle, Scott. I think it turned out cute!

There's a Paul Mitchell school here in Rexburg where you can make appointments for tons of different stuff. So I got a great haircut for $8! My stylist was named Stephanie and she takes her state board exam on Monday. Also, her fiancé is from Gilroy, CA which is near where I used to live, so it was fun chatting with her.

I'm happy with the cut and I'm so glad my hair doesn't just hang there anymore!!

Reverse Pyschology

For one of my classes, a group of students present each week on a topic that is considered beneficial to us as college students. Last week I presented on time management, and this week it was health and fitness.

Our class was divided in half, with one group staying in the classroom(my group), and the other group heading to the Hart(our fitness center). So my old roommate Sarah and I were sitting next to each other listening to these skinny girls talk about health, stress, and nutrition.

They had us read about the Word of Wisdom in the scriptures and describe the do's and don'ts written there. We got into a discussion about meat and when to eat it and why to do so sparingly, and then one of the presenter girls said that legumes and nuts, grains etc. were actually a good alternative source of protein.

All this talk about legumes and meat and grain made me hungry. I leaned over to Sarah, and said, "Do you want to go to Bajio's after this? I'm kind of hungry, we could just walk to my place and I can drive." Sarah gave me this "Do you even have to ask" face and was like "Um yeah I wanna go". So after we had paid our dues and finished the rest of the class, we walked up the hill to my apartment and I ran upstairs for my keys.

We were on our way to Bajio's when we spotted Katie walking up the hill, we pulled over and she hoped in. When we walked into Bajio's we were the only ones there. I ordered my burrito classico with mexican rice, pinto beans and honey chicken, with sour cream. As we sat there eating an awesome pile of deliciousness I had to thank our presenters, without them legumes, meat, and grains would not have been floating around my head. They probably wanted us to steer clear of food like Bajio's but their little lesson drove me right to it.

Thank you Health and Fitness group, thank you. My stomach thanks you too.

Oh and thank you Cold Stone for an awesome burrito chaser. :)

Epic Fail

So, my blog friends, I have joined a team. A dodgeball team. We had our first game last night and it was a lot of fun. Our team name is Epic Fail, and we did just that.

Before the game even began, we lost. We had to forfeit because not enough of our players showed up. We decided to stay and play anyway, and the other team agreed. Despite the fact that the other team had like 10 more people than we did and most of them were big athletic types, we had a good time.

We never did win a round though. We came close once, but then they came back and kicked our butts. So we failed epically.

I think my favorite part was making shirts and taking pictures before the game. It was great! The back of my shirt said "Slow and steady wins the race loses at dodgeball. I'm slow and steady..." I kind of loved it. It was a fun game and it got me moving.

Update

She's back. :)

Confession

Okay. I admit it. I miss my sister.

Katie has been out of town since Thursday, and I'm going a little crazy. I miss her stealing my chocolate, snagging my clean shirts before I have a chance to wear them, and her jumping on my bed with her laptop and doing homework browsing facebook together. I even miss her leaving dishes from her after school snack on my drawers.

She's one of my best friends and I miss her. I can't wait to talk to her when she gets home at like midnight tonight. She probably thinks that she'll get to go directly to bed when she gets home. She will be wrong. We will be discussing her trip while eating delicious goodies that I will post about later, and she will be smothered in my affection. I will cry and plead and ask her to never leave again, and if she does to take me with her. She will look at me like I am a strange creature from one of those fantasy books she reads, and say " you're a little retarded right now," and move on. We'll continue talking until she finally kicks me out of her room. All this before I tuck her in, kiss her on the cheek, turn off the light and shut the door.

The next day she will steal my favorite pair of Vans and everything will be right with the world.
